CRC Board Elections Underway
Producers will be receiving ballots for the 2020/21 open member and alternate seats on the CRC Board the end of July. Producers are eligible to vote in any one district they produce rice.

LAST Chance to Vote!
Growers have until August 3 to vote on the CRC Major Amendment to increase the assessment cap. The increase is proposed in order to cover projected increases in costs for the Rice Waste Discharge Requirement (WDR) over the next nine years.

Armyworm Numbers trending lower
Here’s the latest on Armyworm trapping from UCCE Rice Farm Advisor Luis Espino:
Except for one field, all traps are showing very low numbers. There are still a few worms out there, but I have not seen any fields with high numbers. In some of the fields that are headed I started to notice armyworm panicle injury, but at very low levels. As fields go into heading, and moth populations start increasing, risk of panicle injury will also increase.

The second year of our Pilot Salmon Project fieldwork has yielded some exciting results and should pave the way for the Rice Commission and our fish conservation partners to develop methods to utilize winter-flooded rice fields to help struggling salmon populations.
