Reclamation District 108 (RD108) and California Trout are soliciting applications for the Fish Food Program, which pays rice farmers and wetland managers to flood their fields for a few weeks and drain the water (full of food) to fish-bearing waterways to benefit fish. Landowners do not have to be in RD 108 to apply.
Application deadline is October 7, 2022.

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Undersecretary Robert Bonnie, along with California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Secretary Karen Ross, Jeff Yasui with USDA/RMA and Carlos Suarez with the National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) spent the day on a tour of the Sacramento Valley co-hosted by the CRC and NCWA. The California Legislature has approved a first of its kind $75M drought relief grant program aimed at small ag businesses that support production agriculture. The program also allocates 20 percent of the funds for small or socially disadvantaged farmers.

The CRC must provide information on the number of drinking water supply wells to the Central Valley Water Board. We are required to provide the number of wells by county – no names – no addresses – no APN numbers. This is a new requirement in the Rice WDR Order.
