CA Rice Industry Award Winner Announced at Annual Rice Field Day

Hundreds of growers and industry officials gathered in Biggs today for the annual Rice Field Day event at the California Rice Experiment Station (RES).

This year’s 2023 California Rice Industry Award winner, Director of Research & Technology for Colusa County Farm Supply, Jim F. Cook.

This year’s 2023 California Rice Industry Award winner was recognized for his commitment to improving California rice production, Director of Research & Technology for Colusa County Farm Supply, Jim F. Cook.

In addition to his accomplishments and dedicated service to rice growers, Jim was commended by many for his passion for agriculture, enthusiastic spirit, and desire to bring people together.

Requirement to plant certified or QA seed

A reminder that all rice in California must be planted using certified seed or seed that has gone through a quality assurance program. This requirement is in place to reduce the spread of weedy rice (red rice) through the planting of contaminated seed, one of the major vectors for the pest. CCIA certifies seed for owned varieties and provides quality assurance programs for off patent varieties.
